Friday 5 – Who Are You?

Technically it’s Saturday morning, but that’s okay. 😉

1. Are you more of a Ross, Chandler, Joey, Monica, Phoebe, or Rachel?

This question is great, because not only do I have an answer, but you get to read a little fact about me now. Up until about a year ago, I had never seen an episode of Friends (I know!). Growing up, it just never resonated with me, and so I would flip past it while looking for other shows to watch. Then a year ago, I randomly watched an episode, and there was no going back. Now I own the series on DVD and I watch the four-hour blocks that air in the afternoon on my days off (although I feel like they replay a lot of the same episodes…).

Now, to answer the question… I’m a mix of Monica (her neurosis when it comes to cleaning and having things “just so”), Phoebe (her quirkiness and just general randomness) and Chandler (his sense of humor and sarcasm).

2. Which Muppet would you most like to date?

What a bizarre question, haha. I will say Mike once did a hilarious impression of Beaker (and because I find Beaker’s facial expressions ridiculously funny in general), I’ll go with him.

3. Which Wizard of Oz character do you most identify with?

Are we talking just the main movie characters, or any character from the Oz universe? Either way, I don’t have an immediate answer. This one requires some reading, watching and soul-searching.

4. You’re in one of those heist movies with a whole mess o’ expert specialists. Which are you?

I asked Mike what he thought my specialty would be, and without hesitation, he said, “probably the planning and layout guy.” (Why I’m a guy, I have no idea.) He seems to think I’d be good at drawing up plans and escape routes, etc. I do have an eye for detail, so maybe he’s onto something.

5. Which member of the Brady Bunch would you most likely be good friends with?

Jan. She was always my favorite as a child, plus out of all the Brady kids, I think Jan could use a good friend herself.

Friday 5 – New York Times Bestsellers

1. What is your experience with crayfish (or crawfish or crawdads, depending on where you’re from)?

As somebody who has a fear of bugs and creepy critters, my experience is non-existent. Not that these creatures themselves are creepy; it’s more that they creep me out. I can’t be around things like that. So I’ve never held one, and the time I’ve spent near them is minimal, if any at all. Not for me.

2. When have you been stung by a stinging critter?

Not recently, that I can recall. I’d like to keep it that way,

3. What was the last previously-owned item you purchased for yourself?

A book series that I loved as a teen, that went out-of-print, then was re-relaunched under a different name that also eventually went out-of-print. I tracked down a seller on Ebay and bought a bunch from her (or him). I’m still missing a few books though, so these may also be the next previously-owned items I purchase as well, should I be able to find them.

4. Where are you on the whole Game of Thrones thing?

Never saw an episode, nor do I care to. I’m not really into that genre, so it’s never piqued my interest.

5. How did you celebrate your 18th birthday?

Honestly? No clue. That was 20 years ago and I don’t remember, lol.

Friday 5 – Genre

1. What gets an unfairly bad rap?

Because I’ve heard it in conversation and have seen it discussed on social media the last few days, I’m gonna say Robert Pattinson as Batman. People are so quick to say he’s going to suck, or that he’s not the right actor for the role, because they’re judging him from his Twilight days. No matter how you feel about him, he deserve a chance.

2. What’s something you’ve done to jazz up your routine?

Adopted a kitten a few months back. It was a completely unexpected, spur-of-the-moment decision, but a great one.

3. When did you last have your mettle tested?

Today, actually. I won’t get into it, but I was pushed to my breaking point, and it left me frustrated and crying angry tears. (Side-note: I’m okay.)

4. What’s something you were once — but are no longer — hardcore into?

When I was in third grade, I was introduced to The Baby-Sitters Club series. I was obsessed for years thereafter. Every time I was at the mall with my parents, I would ask them to buy me the newest book (or two, if they were feeling particularly generous). It was the highlight of many childhood days. I still own the books to this day and plan to re-read them one day.

5. What are some porch swings, tire swings, or rope swings you’ve known?

We had a porch swing at a rented house on a dairy farm when I was in elementary school. I remember sitting out there on occasion with a sandwich, and the cats that lived on the property would always try (and sometimes succeed) to steal it from my hands. I always did this, never learning my lesson. (Or maybe I secretly wanted to feed the cats.) I have very vivid memories of this. Then when my mom bought a house, we had a swing in the backyard. I don’t know that I ever used it more than once or twice, but regardless, I loved that swing.
